My grandmother and her great grandmother were sisters from Verdal in the Trondelag region. On my mother's side, I am also related to Norwegian immigrants from Rendalen in the Osterdalen region of Hedmark, now Innlandet. So I would very much like to be able to visit both areas of Norway.

The 2024 Trøndelag tour sounds interesting and I will definitely take a look at it when it comes out. I might have to wait one more year after that, however, as I have 2 years before retirement and would be much easier to schedule after that happens.

Back when my grandfather was born in the 1800's the farm was known as Klefåslien. One of my grandfather's sisters married a Fossum (actually Fossmarken but somewhere along the way it became Fossum) and their son purchased the farm. Today the farm is known as Lia and Geir Petter Fossum resides there now. It is on the east end of Lake Ausetvatnet and for farm number, I can't remember how that translates to English but in my Norwegian book it says:  g.r.n.r. 49, b.r.n.r. 3

I am interested in your 2024 tour. Hope to get my sister to travel with me. Three generations of our Norwegian ancestors, including my great grandfather, came from Storen in 1883. They were from Vold farm, which they took as their surname, it changed to Wold, then Wald (that's me!) I see you have gone to Roros in the past and I would be very interested to go there. I've heard it's quite historic. I believe my ancestor was working there before leaving (have to check my notes) and several further back ancestors lived and mined there.

Update 8-9-2023: My daughter, Katherine Wald, is very interested in the Norway trip. With 3 of us, my sister would do a single.

I am interested in next year’s tour if it is within my budget. Has Tronderlag ever included Røros, the UNESCO world heritage site, in the tour? One branch of my ancestors is from a farm outside Røros.

Hei! I would like to add Sam Christenson and Amy Christenson to the 2024 tour list. Also, I mentioned to our neighbor that Tronderlag is planning this tour and she asked if she and up to four of her children could register even though they are not members of T o A. Is it possible for her to join and bring some or all of her adult children?

I am interested in participating in the 2024 Norway Tour.   Please add me to the list for the tour.  I hope the tour will spend a little time in rural Trøndelag as well as the large cities.  I am especially interested in the Beitstad area as both my husband and I have relatives from there.

MISCELLANEOUS THOUGHTS FROM JON ON ONE POSSIBILITY FOR THE 2024 TOUR.
These notes are incomplete and what I have thought of so far and will probably come up with more later and
we need your thoughts and tour itinerary suggestions. Please send yours to 2024tour@tronderlag.org and we can start to blend them as ideas for Erling as he starts to create the final tour for us.

THESE NOTES ARE A COMBINATION OF THINGS FROM OUR 2005 TOUR, OUR 2019 TOUR AND SOME PERSONAL TRAVELING IN NORWAY. We might be able to use some (or none) of these as we start to plan the itinerary. Having not gone to Bergen before, that would be one thing that makes this tour different then previous ones. The main thing in these suggestions is that we start in Oslo, go to Bergen and travel the E39 ultimately ending in Trondheim.
GENERAL – START IN OSLO, GO TO BERGEN, TRAVEL ALONG THE E39 BY BUS AND FERRY FINALLY GETTING TO TRONDHEIM VISITING PLACES ALONG THE WAY AS TIME AND SCHEDULE PERMIT.

Start in Oslo

JON ORKANGER NOTES
BACKGROUND
For those who don’t know, Erling and Jon helped the Norwegians with their activities celebrating the move of Norway House, originally in Illinois for the 1893 Columbian Eposition, back to Orkanger from the U.S. In recognition for their efforts, both Erling and Jon received part ownership in the Norway House (symbolic only) each receiving a 1/1,000 certificate). Both were acknowledged at Norway House in Orkanger during our 2019 tour.

Erling conducted the Norway House project group U.S. tour which included an Illinois State Historical Society event with the placement of a historical plaque at the original U.S. site in 1893. Jon provided advertising and promotion support,  a special web site, Norwegian flags for the ceremony, and brought greetings from Tronderlag of America, the Norwegian Consulate in Chicago, The Norwegian National League and other Chicago Norwegian-American organizations.

By being there in 2019 and returning in 2024 we might strengthen our relationship with Norway House and give us the opportunity of having a recurring day trip while in Trondheim during future Tronderlag of America Heritage tours.
