SOME FUN HISTORY

Larry Olson shared some pictures from his family attending a Trønderlag event (his grandmother's family was from near Trondheim), which was possibly held at Minnehaha Park in Minneapolis.  It might have been an All-Scandinavian event, since there's a Swedish flag, too....

We'll leave this page up for a while for members to enjoy.

2008 Tre Lag Stevne Group Photo
for Trønderlag of America's 100th Anniversary in Fergus Falls, Minnesota (the location of the original founding of Trønderlag of America). Attendance was so large that the group photo of all three lags had to be taken from a distance with all the members on a hill.

For the archives or your personal interest - I recently got these from a cousin in Minnesota.  They show my paternal grandmother (Alice Otilie Pederson Olson) attending a Tronderlag event (her family was from near Trondheim), which was possibly held at Minnehaha Park in Minneapolis.  It might have been an All-Scandinavian event, since there's a Swedish flag, too...

From their clothing, it looks like the 1940s.  The pictures were very likely taken by three different cameras (based on the photo sizes and the film numbers on the back), and possibly on the same day, as all but one of the participants are wearing the same clothes.  My grandma was a picture-taker from way back, but she appears in all but one of the pictures.

Here are my descriptions (and my detailed deductions).  Several of the ladies appear in multiple pictures and were likely friends of my grandma, but I don't know any of them, and my aunt didn't recognize anyone either.

1 - Roll 634 - landscape orientation - 6 ladies
From left:
Alice O. Pederson Olson in the shirtdress with the big white collar (she is possibly the youngest, born 1908)
Lady B with camera
Lady C - the tallest, with glasses and a hat (also young)
Lady D - white dress, salt-and-pepper hair
Lady E - snow-white hair
Lady F - plaid dress and dark hair

2 - Roll 634 - landscape orientation - wide angle shot of Tronderlag banner
Alice is between the US flag and the tree and next to her friend Lady B, now holding a purse

3 - Roll 079 - portrait orientation - 3 ladies

6 - Roll 959 - landscape orientation - 6 women and 2 men - in front of Swedish and US flags
From left:
Unknown woman
Lady F - plaid dress and dark hair, now in a hat
Lady G - now in a light dress, still wearing pearl choker and earrings, carrying a handbag in her right hand and what looks like a camera in her left
Two unknown men
Lady D - white dress, salt-and-pepper hair, carrying a purse
Two unknown women

Since Lady G appears to have a camera and doesn't appear in pictures 1 and 2, or picture 3, she might have taken them.

Grandma's friend Lady B with the camera is missing from pictures 4, 5, and 6 and might have taken them.

I don't know if records exist for the Trondelag group from that time.  If you can point me in the direction of any, I might try to identify the site and the other persons.

Stay safe and healthy!

Larry Olson from Minneapolis
