| The Centennial Celebration commemorating the
100th anniversary of the founding of Trønderlag of America will be held in
Fergus Falls, Minnesota - the city of the first Trønderlag stevne. This
celebration will come at the conclusion of the regular Tre Lag Stevne
which will run from August 6-9, 2008. The program for the Centennial
will include history displays, visitors from Norway, presentations by
descendants of charter members and others, a special banquet, along with music and entertainment from
Norway and the U.S. In addition, during the
Tre Lag Stevne, the Trønderlag genealogy lab
will be open extra hours on Friday, Aug. 8 from 1:00-5:00 pm and on
Saturday, Aug. 9 from 9:00-11:00 am specifically for our Centennial
visitors. Please stop by and take a look at the vast genealogy resources
of the lag. The research files on each Charter Member will also be
available for browsing. |
Tentative Centennial Schedule
Saturday, Aug. 9
9:00 - 11:00 am - Centennial Genealogy Lab. We will have the
research materials about the charter members available, in addition to our
regular Trønderlag genealogy resources. Please see the Stevne 2008
schedule for additional genealogy research lab times on Aug. 6-8.
12:30-1:30 pm - Registration
1:30 pm - Centennial program begins. The program will include
greetings from several very important people, a presentation about the
history of Trønderlag of America, music by Trønder descendant Arna Rennan,
a presentation about the Charter Members of the lag and brief words by a
few descendants. There will also be a coffee break with Norwegian music.
5:00 pm - Afternoon program ends
6:30 pm - Group photo of all in attendance at the Centennial
7:00 pm - Centennial Banquet, followed by recognition of all
Charter Member descendants in attendance. Next, there will be Trønder
musical dance entertainment by Charter descendant & dance specialist Mikkel Thompson, coming from
Stockholm, Sweden. He will perform with Anders Persson, who plays
Hardanger fiddle and sings in Norwegian tradition.
The evening will conclude with a drawing for door
prizes and music for listening and dancing by the Hjorten Orchestra from
Trondheim, Norway. |
We will be entertained by the Hjorten Husorkester after the banquet
on Saturday, Aug. 9.
Hjorten
Husorkester is a group of musicians living in Trondheim, the capitol of
Trøndelag. There are four members playing in the group: Bjarte Oye (tuba),
Roy Morkemo (guitar and accordion), Jan Krogstad (harmonica and accordion)
and Berit Boysen (accordion).
The group play
folk music and ballads, mostly from Trøndelag, but also from other areas
and countries.

but we advise registering early. Make hotel reservations before July
